“…and 4am knows all my secrets.” ~poppy z. brite

Michigan morning after a storm
Standing tiptoe in socks to avoid leftover rain
This is meditation
Flawless air in a colorless sky,
green 5 shades greener than the night before,
the earth and I lighter after so many tears

Smoke rings from the day’s first cigarette mirror steam from my caffeine Eucharist
This is beauty and I am part of it, if only for the moment
The day has not yet weathered me
I take from it this time,
this energy,
this hope.

reassurance that starting over happens one breath at a time
And this home, this brick, this ground, this earth
this flicker in the galaxy of existence
Is all
That matters
….Yet.
Mornings, I have misjudged you
